James Wong is a Counsel in Dentons' Hong Kong office. He specializes in banking, structured finance, insolvency, debt restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, collective investment funds, structured investment products, regulatory compliance, foreign investments and real estate projects in China.
He regularly advises banks in trade finance deals, syndicated facilities, structured loans, PRC real estate finance and related hedging transactions, insolvency proceedings and debt restructurings.
He also helps collective investment funds obtain financial intermediary licences and investment product authorizations from the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong, and helps these funds set up new business structures and joint ventures in China quickly to take advantage of new regulations or pilot schemes.
James also has significant experience assisting private banks in structuring complicated investment products, handling client disputes and dealing with regulators in general regulatory compliance, investigations, disciplinary and enforcement actions in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Dentons, James practiced law at the Hong Kong and Australian offices of O'Melveny & Myers, Allen & Overy and Deacons. He has also served senior roles in the Hong Kong and London offices of a top global hedge fund and a renowned Swiss private bank.
He has written a book on bankruptcy in China for Butterworths.
