Hong Kong—China's "Belt and Road" initiative, authorised by the State Council and fleshed out by the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce in China, lays down the background, principles, framework, cooperation priorities and cooperation mechanisms for bringing together "The Silk Road Economic Belt" - China, Central Asia, Russia and Europe (the Baltic), linking China with the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean Sea through Central Asia and West Asia, and connecting China with Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Indian Ocean. The 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road is designed to go from China westward to Europe through the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean, and eastward from China through the South China Sea to the South Pacific.

Dentons has been invited as an Advisor to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)'s "Belt and Road Advisory Services" initiative, launched on December 7 2015.

The "Belt and Road Advisory Services" initiative includes a "Belt and Road Portal" which will include information on the Belt and Road related regions and countries, as well as a list of globally positioned professionals capable of handling Belt and Road related projects, particularly for the infrastructure projects.

Joining a prestigious panel including Standard Chartered Bank, Hang Seng Bank, Macquarie Bank, the HK International Arbitration Centre, the Big Four Accounting Firms, as well as the largest chambers of commerce in the territory, Dentons will feature as an expert in related Belt and Road economies and markets, an opportunity which capitalizes on our global footprint and the important role we can play in promoting Hong Kong as a unique platform in realizing business opportunities.

Hong Kong corporate partner Julianne Doe will be Dentons' contact with the HKTDC for global opportunities that will arise from Dentons' partnering role in the Belt and Road Initiative. Julianne represented Dentons in the launch ceremony, where the initiative kicked off with a reception and introduction to the Portal by Mr Vincent Lo, Chairman of the HKTDC.
